She’s ready for her close up: Blondshell announces new album ‘If You Asked For A Picture’
Words by Julia Norton
2024 was an exciting year of new music, and 2025 is shaping up its new release roster as several artists are already teasing singles, albums, and tours. Amongst the artists in the indie rock scene who are sharing new work, Blondshell entered the new year swinging with a new hit “T&A" and the announcement of her second album ‘If You Asked For A Picture’.
A relatively new artist to the indie scene, Blondshell released her debut self-titled album less than two years ago in April of 2023. Sabrina Teitelbaum, the artist behind Blondshell, caught the attention of devoted indie listeners through personal songs of brutal honesty and killer guitar riffs. In her first album, Blondshell dives into her struggles with addiction, toxic relationships, and navigating Los Angeles in her twenties. Singles “Olympus” and “Sepsis” made me fall in love with Blondshell’s penmanship and music composition, and her debut album is something I have had on rotation since the first listen. Blondshell stayed busy releasing new singles in 2024, one of which was “Docket”, a collaboration with indie rock artist Bully that took over as one of the most celebrated indie collabs of the year. “What’s Fair”, the first single off of ‘If You Asked For A Picture’ was also released last summer, a song that’s a candid reflection of Blondshell’s challenging relationship with her mother. According to the artist, relationships with family and friends is one of the themes of the upcoming record.
On January 9th, Blondshell released “T&A” on all streaming services, along with a music video and an official album announcement for ‘If You Asked For A Picture’, which will come out this spring on May 2nd. “T&A” has all of the elements of an instant indie rock hit: an electric guitar build up right off the bat, a vibey drum beat that carries the song, and emotionally intimate lyricism that unravels as the song progresses. Blondshell’s self awareness about the destructive nature of her relationships is what makes her music so enticing, she is not afraid to lay it all out for the listener and admit her true feelings. In “T&A”, Blondshell faces her feelings and the lust that drives a friends to lovers relationship forward. The chorus is the powerhouse of the song as she sings “Letting him in, why don’t the good ones love me? / Watching him fall, watching him go right in front of me”.
‘If You Asked For A Picture’ by Blondshell will be released on May 2nd. In the meantime, you can stream “What’s Fair” and “T&A” off of Blondshell’s upcoming album now on all music platforms. You can also catch Blondshell in concert later this year on her 2025 If You Asked For A Tour world tour!
