Avery Lynch invokes a reminder of songwriting’s meaning with heartfelt storytelling

I want to ask a favor of you, think of your favorite artist. Have someone in mind? Now, when you think of this artist, what were they like when they were coming up? Did they play open mic nights at their local bar, or did they perform at basement shows, did they have musical friends? Something you may not often think about or have been witness to is the way music comes to be what it is, how do your favorite artists get from writing those first songs to their sold out stadium tours? What changed along the way? Do they still think of what the music means to them?

Avery Lynch is a reminder of the love and magic that can be found in a song, the personal significance, and the piece of the artists heart that comes through as well. Songs can be with songwriters in the worst of times, or the best of times. What stands out about Avery Lynch is just how she’s been willing to share them.

Avery’s music begins in the COVID 19 pandemic, where she first began sharing hers songs despite having written forever. Some of her songs ended up catching some attention, so eventually she just decided to keep sharing. Best Left had the chance to catch Avery’s mini hometown tour last month, and what sticks out about Avery isn’t just the music but the environment she cultivated surrounding it. Avery’s hometown tour wasn’t at some big venues, and it wasn’t at some bar either, instead we caught the Philadelphia show in the Paradigm Arts building.

Often described as a "happy girl filled with sad songs," Avery’s music is anchored in heartfelt storytelling inspired by her life experiences, the world around her, and the media she consumes. Since making her debut in 2020, she’s cultivated a loyal fanbase, even creating songs inspired by her followers' comments and thoughts. With over 100 million streams to date and a freshly inked deal with RECORDS (Sony Music), Avery Lynch is an artist who will attract your attention.

Something about hearing it in a beautiful, intimate, creaky, Philadelphia art museum surrounded by Avery’s friends and family and fans who came along with their blankets to sit and listen to songs they’ve loved from an artist who loved them more resonated with me. I think it was a reminder about how music, if you take it all away back to the beginning, means something to the person who wrote it. Music is a documentation of that person or peoples feelings, what was happening, a moment in time, and there are few who showcase that better than Avery Lynch.

Simply put, Avery is what many aspire to be, the epitome of a young musician who has been utilizing her creativity to share a glimpse of the world through her eyes. She has only furthered her love of songwriting throughout her journey so far, and hasn’t let any of the attention change her in the slightest. It was an absolute honor to witness an artist who embodies such love and genuinely vulnerable honesty in a way nobody else could.

You can check out Avery Lynch below, or wherever you stream music, and be sure to stay tuned for her latest single “the boys who don’t know what they want” out on January 24th.
