MILLY, an alt-rock band from Los Angeles just released their newest single “Spilling Ink.” They made the song intending to create something unlike previous pieces. “We were trying to write the fastest song we have to date” says lead singer Brendan Dyer. Hearing a song with such a pace makes you assume the message must be happy. However, there are times when this outlook on life simply isn’t true, connecting to the song's overall meaning. “It’s a sad song- there are feelings of the forgotten past, seasons changing, connecting patterns, and pushing through in silence.” In a way, these emotions are perfectly encapsulated in an upbeat tune. Due to the concept of struggling in secret, and the keep-going motivation it exudes.

This is now their second track released as a part of their upcoming album Your Own Becoming, which enters the world on June 28th. The band does something different with this new song of theirs, implying growth and changes for the musicians. After the release of the album, the band will begin their summer tour performing music yet to be showcased to fans.

Your Own Becoming prides itself on tuning into your darkest thoughts and using them productively. Even the name of this album sheds a positive light on self-empowerment. “Your Own Becoming is really what it’s like at the end of the finish line” said Dyer. “We move through a lot of emotions, a lot of work, and jumped through so many hoops to end up on the other side. It’s the inevitable turnout of making it through better.”

Dyer was laser-focused in terms of the songwriting for this new album. A majority of the songs were written during lead singer Brendan Dyer’s daily walks to work. This led to deep thinking and meaningful lyrics. “I think about death all the time” he mentions. “At this point in my life, I’m extremely aware of how time moves quickly.”

The album is raw and real, including contributions from the group as a whole. This differs from their usual process, as MILLY originated as a solo project for Dyer. However, the songwriter is more than thrilled to be switching things up. “I had always wanted to have a band that would just get together every week. Even if we’re not writing, we’re hanging out all the time, we’re listening to music together, and we’re jamming.” Great minds think alike, meaning Your Own Becoming will not fall short of anything less than incredible. With its heartfelt lyrics and complex meaning it’s personal. Listeners will find themselves easily resonating with the message at hand. Hopefully, they will also find themselves buying tickets to the band’s upcoming tour this summer.
