Meet Dylan: Your new favorite rockstar and her latest single, “The Alibi”

Words by Matt Keenan

London-based singer/songwriter Natasha Woods – AKA DYLAN – has released a new single, “The Alibi,” which is the latest addition to the 24-year-old’s discography. This release follows an acoustic version of her song “Rebel Child,” 2022’s No Romeo EP, and full-length debut, The Greatest Thing I’ll Never Learn; the album boasts rhythmically layered guitars and bass, carefully crafted vocals that give off the essence of being patiently and lovingly produced, anchored by catchy lyrical hooks you can sit and listen to for hours on repeat.

"The Alibi is my Bonnie and Clyde anthem. Except I nearly let Clyde ruin my life. For me the song was written about having to let go of a relationship that meant a lot to me - despite it not being a healthy one - and wanting to express how much that person still meant to me after," she explains. "I think the hardest kind of breakup is when you still think the absolute world of someone after it's over. It's taken a year to get this song right but I knew it was special the minute we wrote the first version. Ten versions later, it's more of a celebration of love rather than loss.”

At first glance, Dylan might just seem like a pop star. However, her music is colored by early influences of classic rock legends such as AC/DC, Aerosmith, and Guns N’ Roses. She playfully notes herself as a “wannabe rock star in a pop star’s body,” which is also an apt description of her music. Through determination, a candid nature, and sheer passion for what she does, Dylan has been on a run of form lately on a busy touring schedule supported by thousands of adoring fans.

With the release of “The Alibi,” Dylan only continues on such a run of form. “The Alibi” touts the same rhythmic instrumentation, illustrative lyricism paired with breathy, layered vocals and synth to complete a passionately constructed track. Dylan brings to the table a progressively refreshing discography in a world where Olivia Rodrigo and Paramore are some of this generation's favorite and most influential artists. Yet, Dylan manages to stylishly channel influences of old in a way all her own to sit in the same arena as the most influential artists currently; yet, be different than them in the best way. If you aren't listening to Dylan yet, you should absolutely get to it.
